SCT offers online resources to assist individuals in educating themselves about clinical research, enabling them to make more informed decisions about participation in clinical research, and in turn their overall health. A revolving check list of questions for prospective volunteers to ask when considering a trial is also provided each time a search is conducted. No other service provides this educational information.
Sites that will be included in search results will be added in phases. Direct feeds from current and additional websites will also be obtained. At the end of 2006, SCT will be the most comprehensive database of sites offering clinical trial listings, results, news and information in the United States.
SearchClinicalTrials.org is not meant to recruit the public to clinical trials, but rather offers educational resources to assist individuals in educating themselves about clinical research and allowing them to make more informed decisions about participation in clinical research, and in turn their overall health.
SearchClinicalTrials.org is sponsored by the Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation (CISCRP), a first-of-its-kind non-profit organization founded in 2003 and located in Dedham, Massachusetts. CISCRP’s mission is to promote greater awareness and understanding of clinical research participation and the role that it plays in public health by educating patients, the public, the media, policymakers, and medical and research professionals about clinical research participation and what it means to be an active participant in the process. It is our goal to facilitate more effective collaboration among all members of the clinical research enterprise. We hope to achieve this through public service announcements, a national awareness and educational campaign called AWARE for All, the distribution of informational materials to health and research centers, health fairs, public libraries and community events, and other outreach and educational programming. SearchClinicalTrials.org would not have been possible without the generous pro bono support from FAST Search & Transfer, a Norwegian company that is a leading developer of enterprise search technologies and solutions. FAST has offered to continue to support the SearchClinicalTrials.org public service. More information about FAST can be found at www.FastSearch.com.
